About this policy

Lotanna Igwe-Odunze operates The Ńdébé Project (“we”, “us”), which provides information and tools for learning and using the Ńdébé script. This policy covers this Ńdébé website and its learning resources, contact form and advertising features. Separate websites linked from here, including Type Ndebe, have their own privacy notices.

Information used when you visit

Our hosting provider receives technical information needed to deliver pages and logs visitors’ IP addresses for security purposes.

You can read the site without creating an account. Searches and learning-tool inputs are processed in your browser. Our analytics does not collect their contents. Following an external link, sending a contact message or using a separate website has its own data flow.

Page-view analytics

Our analytics provider helps us understand which pages are visited. We send the page’s fixed address, technical library information and a browser user agent. The provider processes the connection IP address and user agent to calculate a daily identifier, then removes those two values from the stored event. These counts are estimates rather than a record of named visitors.

This analytics configuration uses no cookies or browser storage. It does not capture clicks, session recordings, form contents, learning-tool inputs, search terms, referring-page addresses, or the query strings and fragments in page addresses. It does not create personal profiles. We skip analytics when your browser signals Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control. This privacy-policy page does not load analytics.

When you contact us

The contact form asks for your name, email address, subject and message. A telephone number is optional. We use this information to receive and respond to your enquiry, including questions about the script or licensing. Please do not include passwords, payment details or sensitive personal information that is unnecessary for your enquiry.

Our form-processing, email-delivery, forwarding and mailbox providers process your enquiry to deliver it to our inbox. Your email address is used as the reply-to address so we can respond. You can also email us directly.

Our spam-protection provider checks browser and connection signals to help distinguish visitors from automated abuse. The form also uses the connection IP address to limit rapid submissions. The form’s application code does not deliberately log your message or contact fields; hosting and delivery providers may retain operational records needed to provide and protect their services.

Cookies and advertising

Advertising helps support the Ńdébé Project. Where ads are displayed, we use Google AdSense. Google and other third-party advertising vendors use cookies and similar technologies to serve ads based on visits to this website and other websites. Google’s advertising cookies enable it and its partners to personalize ads using those visits.

Advertising providers may receive IP addresses, browser and device information, cookie or advertising identifiers, page addresses, and information about ad impressions and interactions. They use this information to deliver and measure ads, prevent fraud and, where permitted, personalize advertising. We do not send contact-form fields or learning-tool inputs as advertising data.

Google describes its processing in How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services and its privacy policy. The advertising privacy message, where displayed, identifies participating partners and provides their information and available choices. Google's ad technology provider information also links to provider privacy policies; not every listed provider necessarily receives information from this site.

Personalized advertising and non-essential storage that require consent depend on your consent. Declining consent does not prevent you from reading our learning material. Non-personalized ads are not necessarily cookie-free: storage may still be used for purposes such as measurement or fraud prevention where permitted.

Your advertising choices

Where a consent message is displayed, use its consent, refusal or settings options to make your choice. To revisit a choice, use the Privacy and cookie settings link on a page displaying the advertising message. In regions where a sale or sharing opt-out applies, use the Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information link provided with the advertising privacy controls. These controls apply to that browser and device; you may need to choose again after clearing browser data or using a different browser.

You can also opt out of Google’s personalized advertising in My Ad Center and manage participating third-party vendors through the Digital Advertising Alliance opt-out tool. These options do not remove all advertising. Browser cookie settings can limit or clear stored cookies, but do not replace every advertising preference.

Under some US privacy laws, sharing identifiers and browsing information for targeted advertising may be considered a “sale” or “sharing” of personal information, even without a payment for the data. Where applicable, you may opt out of that processing through the advertising privacy controls or contact us at messages@ndebe.org. You may also use an authorized agent where the law allows. We do not discriminate against visitors for exercising privacy rights.

Our cookieless page analytics is separate from advertising choices. It remains disabled when your browser signals Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control. A Do Not Track signal is not a substitute for an advertising-consent choice. Where required by applicable law, we treat Global Privacy Control as an opt-out of the sale or sharing of personal information for targeted advertising.

Why we use information and who receives it

We use information to operate and secure the website, understand page usage, answer enquiries and handle licensing discussions. The categories of service providers described above receive information for those functions. We do not use contact messages for advertising profiles. Information may also need to be disclosed where required by law or to protect legal rights.

Where data-protection law requires a legal basis, these activities may rely on our legitimate interests in running and protecting the site and answering enquiries, steps requested before entering a contract, or legal obligations. Advertising that requires consent relies on the choice made through the relevant controls. Accepting our terms or simply visiting the site is not consent to personalized advertising.

Retention and international processing

Contact correspondence may remain in our mailbox while an enquiry is being handled and where needed for an ongoing relationship, licensing records, legal obligations or resolving disputes. Retention depends on that purpose; this policy does not promise an automatic deletion deadline. You can ask us to delete correspondence that is no longer needed.

Analytics records and provider operational records are subject to the services’ retention settings and policies. A daily analytics identifier changing does not mean the underlying page-view records are deleted daily. Our providers may process information in the United States and other countries outside your own. You can contact us for more information about the recipients of your information and international processing.

Your choices and requests

Depending on the law that applies to you, you may have rights to access, correct, delete or receive a copy of personal information, restrict or object to its use, and withdraw consent where processing depends on consent. Email messages@ndebe.org with your request. We may need enough information to verify and locate the relevant records; we may be unable to associate cookieless visit counts with a particular person.

You may also contact the data-protection authority in your jurisdiction. Withdrawing consent does not undo processing that was lawful before withdrawal. Privacy preferences do not stop hosting or contact-security processing needed to deliver those services.

Young learners and external sites

The learning material can be used by young learners. They do not need to send us personal information to read it. Parents or guardians can contact us about information a child may have submitted. Links to Type Ndebe, social networks and other external sites take you to services with their own privacy practices.
